I work across mediums to celebrate the beauty around me, but also respond to a culture that bamboozles us into believing that health is to be well adjusted to a very sick society.
Over the years, my creative practice has evolved into something more foundational, a basic food group. I don’t limit being an artist to the studio–my practice is always in a state of evolution, with creativity at the core, welcome and very present in everything I do.
My work is just a physical record of ways I’ve learned to rely on inspired thought, to truly be in spirit and do life during this wild time in history, manifested attempts at building community and transforming victimhood into empowerment, to try and have a little fun around here too gosh dangit.
COMMUNITY
I’m passionate about building community and I'm interested in the human condition, mindful strategies to foster connection, regenerative responses to healing agriculture, trauma, shame, and consumer culture.
My days are mostly spent running Night Snacks & South Loop Farmers Market. Both entities will play together this winter for SLFM’s 3rd location and premiere indoor market, featuring adjacent programming that will expand on how a farmers market can provide nourishment, bring joy & a little razzle dazzle to the future of retail spaces.
Our team will be using the work of Chelsey Luger & Thosh Collins and their beautiful book The Seven Circles: Indigenous Teachings for Living Well as a primary source of inspiration. Hope to see you IRL this Winter!
VISUAL
Art for me is a chance to play, be an observer, heal, and shift perspective. It’s a safe space for all the shadowy parts too, a place to lean into new ways to be curious about myself and the world around me.
I create visual work with a lot of vibrant color and compositions that tend to produce themes of play, shame, humor, loss, and movement. Painting will always be my first love and enables me permission to feel free, to be held by and devoted to something greater than myself.
These days, most of my studio time has been going into fiber art and an upcycled clothing brand. I’ve been having a lot of fun experimenting with new ways to tell stories by way of wearable art, transforming synthetic fabrics & making use of what’s headed for the landfill, dreaming up primary and secondary uses for each piece before they’re actually trash. I’ll be launching my brand (hint: there will be an alien theme) with digitals at a healthy pace for me…for now here’s some examples of what’s been setting my mind on fire during this process:
Virgil Abloh (used to come to our farmers market, just saying)
